Providing life-changing assistance to children in four cities through family preservation and reunification

Bethany believes that children thrive best when growing up in a family. Our staff work with orphanage directors and government officials in Gnivan, Kiev, Tulchyn, and Vinnitsa to prevent children from ever having to experience life in an orphanage (family preservation) and to return children living in orphanages to their loving, biological families (family reunification). International Sponsorship support in Ukraine helps keep children in families.

Many Ukrainian families are poor and cannot provide for their children. This financial crisis has resulted in families relying on the government to care for their children. Unfortunately, some orphanages can care for up to 200 children-not an environment that provides the warmth, love, and care given by a family. Bethany believes that each child should be raised by his or her family, whenever it is appropriate, but this is not always possible.

Family Preservation
Bethany's staff work with local state administration and orphanage staff to identify families at risk of abandoning their children. We work with needy families to prevent children from being placed in institutions. International Sponsorship promotes family preservation by helping biological families care for their children.

Family Reunification
When children are either left at an orphanage and have no contact with their parents or when they come from families to which they cannot return safely, Bethany searches for extended family members capable of providing a safe and loving home. If it is possible to work with parents to resolve problems that will make it safe for children to return home, Bethany does its best to make that happen. Your International Sponsorship also supports family reunification.
