Sponsor A Child

Millions of children around the world live without the love of a permanent family. They grow up in orphanages, group homes, foster homes, or on the streets.

Many women struggle to raise their children on their own. Some have lost loved ones to HIV/AIDS, while others have been rejected by their families or denied shelter and protection.

One of the ways you can give HOPE to these children is through International Sponsorship.

Your International Sponsorship will allow Bethany to care for and provide permanent homes for children and/or women. Your pledge will help meet the needs of the child or woman you sponsor.

1. Bethany promotes the sponsorship of children.
Bethany works to find permanent families for children. We know, however, that finding families for some children may take time and that some children may never join a forever family. Bethany is committed to providing the support necessary to make sure that these children experience the love, security, and care they need.

2. Bethany-sponsored children live in a variety of home or orphanage environments.
In some cases, Bethany has built and manages orphanages. Bethany also works with private or government orphanages. Other children may be living in foster homes or with their families who are in desperate need of support. Through the help of International Sponsorship, Bethany finds permanent families for children.

3. What is the cost of an annual sponsorship?
Depending on the country and situation, the total annual support needed for a child can vary. International Sponsorship is available on multiple levels. Due to the varying costs to support a child, some children have more than one sponsor.

4. Your gifts go to support your sponsored child.
The exact amounts vary slightly per country, but on average, 85% of your sponsorship gift goes to the care of the child.

5. There are many ways to give an International Sponsorship gift.
There are several options that you may choose from. You may fulfill your sponsorship with a one-time gift, or you may choose to give monthly. Cash, check, EFT, or credit card gifts are accepted. A brochure is available for EFT/credit card gift options.

6. What happens when your sponsored child no longer needs International Sponsorship support?
We will send you a "final" update and introduce you to another child who needs your support.

7. Can you send a special gift to your sponsored child (Birthday/Christmas)?
We suggest that you to keep your gifts within the $10 to $20 range. The most efficient way to send a gift to your sponsored child is to send a monetary gift directly to Bethany International Sponsorship in the name of your child. Our in-country staff will purchase a gift(s) with the money you sent for your child. We strongly encourage monetary gifts rather than sending packages because of difficulties in shipping packages to other countries, as well as customs restrictions since 9/11.

8. When will you hear about your sponsored child?
You will receive information about your sponsored child, including a new picture, two times per year. You will also receive the Making a Connection sponsorship newsletter three times per year as well as an opportunity for you to connect with your child three times a year through Bethany's Kid Connects.

9. Will you receive a receipt for your International Sponsorship gifts?
You will receive a receipt following each gift. A self-addressed return envelope will be included for your subsequent sponsorship gifts. Please send your gifts to Bethany Christian Services International Sponsorship in the return envelope provided.

10. The Extra Mile Fund
The EMF began in response to generous sponsors who sent in extra support for the program to use "where most needed." The EMF supports children from the International Sponsorship program who have needs beyond those covered by sponsorship support. These needs are published in each issue of Making a Connection. Sponsors may give toward a specific child's need or in general to the EMF. To make a donation, please note "Extra Mile Fund" on the memo line of your check. Gifts of all amounts are appreciated.
