Many Romanian families are poor, and the government can offer little help to them. With your International Sponsorship support, vulnerable children in Romania can avoid being placed in institutions (orphanages), can return home to their parents, can live in loving foster families, or can be adopted.
Bethany's primary goal is to develop a continuum of social services for Romanian children and families in need. Each child deserves a loving family; that is why Bethany is working to make it possible for biological, foster, or adoptive families to raise children in their homes.
Prevention of Abandonment Bethany Romania believes that children should be raised by their parents. Through Bethany's Prevention of Abandonment program, we help children remain with their biological families. We offer support and counseling until parents are able to take care of their children, thus preventing the institutionalization of children. How do we do this? International Sponsorship support helps us provide food, clothing, medicine, and toys. We make sure that the children are well cared for. We empower families to keep their children at home and strengthen the relationship between children and their parents.
Family Reunification In cases where children have been removed from their biological parents or if they have been abandoned at an orphanage, Bethany works with the parents to solve the problems that led to the abandonment or removal. Once the problems are resolved and the families are again functional, we reunite children with their families.
Foster Care Many children cannot be reunited with their families, and some children need temporary care until reunification is possible. To respond to this need, Bethany developed a foster care program where children at risk of being abandoned or institutionalized are placed with loving foster families. These families rely on Bethany's International Sponsorship support to properly care for the children.
Domestic Adoption

Domestic adoption is a new concept in Romania. Bethany is actively working to recruit and train adoptive families and place institutionalized or abandoned children in their care. Unfortunately, the government does not support these families and often, without your International Sponsorship support, these placements will never occur.
Youth Project The goal of the youth project is to help youth who will "age out" of orphanages make a successful transition from living in an orphanage to living on their own in their community. Through International Sponsorship support, Bethany provides vital services to these youth, such as life skills training, educational and vocational training, mentoring services, independent living skills, job placement services, and more. In addition, Bethany contacts professionals from state or private placement centers to continue providing services to these youth while involving the community in addressing their needs.
Thank you for considering sponsorship in Romania.
