The Shaoyang Social Welfare House is located in Shaoyang, Hunan Province, China. The Shaoyang Social Welfare House has been in existence since 1952. The organization has grown from housing 60 people, to now housing nearly 300 individuals. Residents include children to the elderly. The Shaoyang Social Welfare House offers a beautiful setting with red flowers, green grass, tall trees, water pools, pavillions and singing birds. Numerous honors have been awarded to this location, recognizing them as an excellent institution in Shaoyang City and in China.Many of the children in Shaoyang Social Welfare House have been brought here by the police after being abandoned, either at the police station or on the streets. There is little known about their families. They are given the last name of Shao after the city where they were found, Shaoyang.
Bethany sponsors children from the Yichang City Children's Welfare Institute in Hubei Province, China. Yichang was founded in 1993. Bethany began their partnership with Yichang in the fall of 2007.Twenty three staff (including office, medical, caretakers, special education teachers, and therapists) care for 100 children. Two of the children are orphans and 98 are considered abandoned. Of the 100 children, 43 are living with foster families, and 57 live in the orphanage, 56 are considered special needs children. The staff believe in a clean living environment for the children. There is a nutritionist who prepares meals for the children. Staff work hard to maintain a "family" environment for the children. They also pay attention to their health, early development education and have classes for pre-school children. School age children go to the public school system.
